Chess in the 80s 15: Dlugy Interview (11/1988)
I was talking last week (Cit80s 14) about the time it took for news to travel in the chess world 30 years ago. In today’s post we have an interview with Max Dlugy, winner of the 1988 World Open, two months after his victory was first reported.
"Max Dlugy’s fate is lost in the darkness of unrealized possibility or, as we say, the future"
- Larry Parr
Well, yes, but I rather doubt that what Parr had in mind was Dlugy spending eight months in a Russian prison accused of a multi-million dollar fraud. Subsequently acquitted of all charges, he lated tried to become FIDE President according to wikipedia. Now he seems to be back in New York running a chess school including classes for 3 to 5 year-olds.
Which is quite a career path, you have to agree.
